This was one of the most heart-wrenching films I have seen in a long, long time. The writers did a, by far, excellent job of making this film as powerful as it was. If you’re a half-descent person you would see how hard it is for some people to not be comfortable in their own skin. I learned so much from this film it is incredible. Hilary Swank did an absolutely divine job of playing the complex character, Brandon Teena she was chosen to play! The way she can go from being an beauty on the red-carpet than to playing a woman who so badly wants to become the man she feels she is inside. This film did an excellent job of portraying the battles of those who deal with FTM gender challenges everyday. Including dealing with redneck type people who think it’s hilarious to manipulate and sexually harass/assualt these individuals to prove what they believe the person to be.

This movie is hard to talk about, it was presented so perfectly. The only thing I can think of is that its characters lacked historical information. I would have felt like I understood a lot of things better if it went into more detail about the problems of the characters throughout the storyline. For example, if it had shown more of Brandons problems, criminal and moral. I wanted to know what kind of trouble he had with the law, and also what his relationship problems with his mother were like. The movie was amazing though, the acting, plot, significant information… it was all phenominal. It really dug deep into the issues that gender challenged people face. The film did a really good job of making you feel like you really understood the fearsome lives that some people, unfortunately have to live.
