WOW.It was an extremely interesting, crazy, sad, horrifying, amazing film. It was all about the violence over diamonds in Africa. The story was electrifying, I was glued to the screen the entire time and I couldnt wait to see what was going to happen next. The action and suspense never slowed down, and the story stayed strong right through to the end. It was so incredibly sad and touching. All of the children, and the violence and weapons. It was almost too much to handle at some parts. The only thing that I could say was wrong with this film was Leonardo DiCaprio’s accent. He did an extraordionary job acting in the film, but the accent had a mind of its own. It went from African, to Australian and around to American… it was just too much. I wont touch on that anymore (like i would if the film was horrible). Because it was such a phenominal story it rubs out all the negative qualities. Djimon Hounsou was amazing! Absolutely Amazing. I reccomend this film, and if you havent seen it, just look at some pictures of it, watch the trailer and you wont be able to stop yourself.

8/10

Amazing movie! It was so intense the whole way throughout the movie. It started off so sad, and then it just got sadder and sadder all the way until the very end of the movie. The story of the R.U.F’s going town to town destroying everything and killing so many people for no reason except their own sick minded reasons. If they didnt kill all the young boys they would either amputate their limbs  or take them and make them become one of the R.U.F….The story of Soloman trying to find his family again was heart wrenching and…sooo sad. Oh boy…then there’s Leonardo DiCaprio’s accent….Heres how his accent went throughout the movie:

This is how his accent drastically changed from African to Austrailian to African again….

This one is how he all of the sudden became British…

Other than his terrible accent performance he did an outstanding job!

  1. Interesting to read your views on Leonardo’s accent.
I am from Zimbabwe and have the authetic version of the accent he has in the film.
From beginning to end he does an excellent and highly realistic impression – not only of the accent and the colloquiallisms but of the body and hand movement that comes with it. It really was just like watching a Zimbabwean of that age and background.
As for him sounding a bit like a brit, if you’ve ever heard a real zimbabwean accent, you’d know that this does happen. We do not have an afrikaans background like South Africans (although, like Leo does in the film, we might use some afrikaans words every now and again) and at times have been accused of being “More English than the English”.

Its no easy accent to do and he carries it off extremely well, clearly he spent no little time putting the effort to get it right. Bravo!

  2. Thanks so much for your comment, its so awesome to hear from someone with a direct opinion like that. All of your information was so helpful. If you say that he did a good job, we’ll take your word for it! – cause it seems like you know a lot more about it than we do 🙂
