This man has come from nowhere and has already produced tracks and collaborated with artists such as – get ready for this: Eminem, Snopp Dogg, Gwen Stefani, Savage, Baby Bash, T-Pain, Beenie Man, Youngbloodz and so so many more. Akon’s discography is already exceptional, and I have a feeling that he isnt going anywhere soon.
Now Akon is the type of artist that you either love or hate, for most – im sure just by looking at the amount of money that this hip-hopper makes – love is an easy pick – but im sure for those who hate rap and hip-hop his voice could be just as annoying as Justin Timberlake during his NSYNC days. It seems that many artists like the sound that he brings to a record though and he’s doing it right.
But let’s get serious – being featured on our blog doesnt mean just being recognized for talent, or perfect manipulation of popular culture, it means that we’re going to pick you apart just for fun. Now Akon is known for his collaborations almost more than his own songs- in which he must have someone else collaborating with him – I’m not sure if I can recall one song of his that ive heard where he sings alone. He really started being acknoleged after releasing the track Mr.Lonely – which is one of those song that makes you feel like sticking the barrell of a rifle down your throat when it gets stuck in your head. He used a song originally made by Bobby Vinton also titled ‘Mr.Lonely’, and speeds up the audio in the mix – creating the effect you can hear – which sounds exactly like the Chipmunks.
Akon’s voice indicates that he has around the same testosterone level as James Blunt, and has even established a way to be more boring in videos than Timbaland- which is a huge accomplishment, and sometimes seems more out of place in a hip-hop video than K-fed. The only thing that separates Akon from every other Hip Hop artist is his voice – that’s his trademark – and personally I like it.
